Creating an Advertisement : Ideas and Initial Research

The picture above is an advertisement for Fujifilm's Finepix F70 camera. The setting of the advert is during a funeral, and the reason why is because of the camera's main selling feature in the ad, which is its fast autofocus and mouth tracking. An important part of photography is to capture the moment, and in order to do that, every second counts. Thus, it would be terrible or inconvenient if the photo is blurry or out of focus, especially at such an important moment. Fujifilm also put emphasis on people's mouths on the F70 with the green box, which is autofocus, and the caption "with smile capture", meaning that its autofocus system does a great job of detecting expressions through a person's mouth. Other than that, the ad also shows the camera's color capabilities with black, yellow, green, and the skin tone color present in the picture.

This other advertisement is for Olympus's E-520 camera. The picture shows someone holding a camera with one hand and four arm holders that supported his arm. The emphasis or purpose for this advertisement is the camera's anti hand-shaking and stabilization system. When doing photography, shaking and instability is often an issue as it sometimes makes photos blurry or out of focus as well. The arm holders are meant so that his arm stays stable and doesn't shake or move too much when taking a photo. There is also the text on the left side that said "Introducing the anti-handshake E-520". Both the text and the arm holders indicate that the camera has amazing anti hand-shaking and stabilization system. The advert also shows that the camera is lightweight and easy to hold, as the person is able to do so with just one hand.

The two advert shows the creative ways in which you can detail a product to attract customers. They explore the photography tech that helps people deal with problems they might face with their cameras, such as focus and shaking. The first one did great on using a setting like a funeral, to emphasize how important autofocus is to capture moments while also showing the quality of the picture. The second one did great on using other objects like arm holders to convey the camera's anti-handshaking.

As for myself, both have inspired me into what I wanted to make for my advert. The first one inspired me on aspects such as what slogan I should choose that best describe the camera's strong points, how I would have preferred to have the audience know what the quality of the image looks like, and how I can talk about autofocus as a camera's strong points. The second one also inspired me on using other items such as arm holders to emphasize the strong points, in which I was inspired to use a lens to emphasize the camera's high quality image. It also taught me that simplicity in an advert is good, and that anti-handshaking or stability is also a strong point I can talk about in the product. Both led me to understand that I have to look into the things that makes the product good, such as high quality image and fast shutter in order to make a good advert.

  1. Good that you analysed the two adverts and have included details about the camera. However, you need to talk about how have they inspired you to create your own advert? You need to add a little more commentary to write what ideas did they give you to create your own advert and what did you learn from them.

    1. Thank you for the comment! I've added a third paragraph to talk about how these two adverts inspired me and influenced my final advert
