Free Project: Podcast Technical Research

In this post, I would like to research about podcast and how to create one.

To begin with, here is a definition of the word podcast from the Oxford English Dictionary, "A digital audio file of speech, music, broadcast material, etc., made available on the internet for downloading to a computer or portable media player." (Oxford University Press, n.d.)

Then, I researched about how to start a podcast from three different sources (See bibliography), here is the notes I made on this:

1. Determine the theme or topic of the podcast
It's crucial to determine the theme or topic that the podcast will cover as this will help put focus on the content and attract a specific audience.

2.Choose a format
There are several formats for creating a podcast, including solo shows, interviews, and panel discussions.

3. Plan your content
Create an outline or script for each episode of the podcast, ensuring to stay on track and cover all of the necessary topics as fit to the podcast's aims.

4. Record your audio
Get a good microphone and recording software to ensure that the audio quality is high. After that, record the audio in a quiet space to minimize background noise.

6. Edit your audio
Use audio editing software to remove any mistakes or unwanted background noise. Add in any music or sound effects to enhance the content.

7. Publish your podcast
Choose a hosting platform to publish the podcast, then promote the podcast on social media and other channels to reach the intended target audience.

Based on this, the podcast that I will create will be about the Taiwanese New Wave, with the target audiences intended for film enthusiasts or even Taiwanese people. The format will be a solo show, which is presented as a monologue, with one individual (me) who runs the show (Virgillito, 2020). I will then create a script for the episode, detailing the movement's history, production characteristics, directors and films, how it relates to the artform, the Taiwanese people, and the audience, etc.

In terms of, equipments and softwares used, I have made a list on what I would need.
* Equipments to use:

  • Microphones
  • Mic stand
  • Audio interface
  • Headphones

* Softwares that will be needed:

  • Audio editing software
  • Publisher
